Colin Bennett
Usual Suspects and Strange Bedfellows: Networks of Privacy Advocacy in Surveillance Societies
Dr. Colin Bennett received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees
from the University of Wales, and his Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Since 1986 he has taught in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria,
where he is now Professor. From 1999-2000, he was a fellow at the Kennedy School of Government
Harvard University. His research has focused on the comparative analysis of information privacy
protection policies at the domestic and international levels. In addition to numerous articles, he
has published three books: Regulating Privacy: Data Protection and Public Policy in Europe and the
United States (Cornell University Press, 1992); Visions of Privacy: Policy Choices for the Digital
Age (University of Toronto Press, 1999, with Rebecca Grant); The Governance of Privacy: Policy
Instruments in the Digital Age (Ashgate Press, 2003, with Charles Raab).

Interview: N. Katherine Hayles
Dr. N. Katherine Hayles is a noted postmodern literary critic
and theorist as well as the author of How We Became Posthuman: Virtual Bodies in Cybernetics,
Literature and Informatics (University Of Chicago Press, 1999) which won the Ren Wellek Prize for
the best book in literary theory for 1998-1999. Her most recent book is
Electronic Literature: New Horizons for the Literary (University of Notre Dame Press, 2008).
She is currently a professor in the Literature Program and the Information Science and
Information Studies program (ISIS) at Duke University.
