Stephen Pfohl

Stephen Pfohl is Professor of Sociology at Boston College, where he teaches courses on social theory, images and power, deviance and social control, social psychoanalysis, and critical approaches to global culture and technology. A former president of the Society for the Study of Social Problems and a regular contributor to CTheory, Pfohl's published works include Death at the Parasite Café (Palgrave Macmillan, 1992), Images of Deviance and Social Control (Waveland, 2009), Left Behind: Religion, Technology, and Flight from the Flesh (CTheory Books, 2007), and the co-edited volume Culture, Power, and History (Haymarket Books, 2009). Pfohl is currently completing a multiple-volume study of "social suggestion" and its relation to cybernetic forms of power.
